Amala Kanara
« on: January 30, 2011, 03:17:51 pm »
At Frost's requested, posted to a separate thread as she is now active and her sister is not.

Full Name: Amala Kanara
Species: Female Cheetah Mounty
Age: 19, the younger of the two by 15 minutes.
Function:Special Ops
Quote: "Race you down the hallway."
"I just got an idea."
How much experience do you have with role-playing? How much time have you spent on MUSHs/MUXs/etc.?
Veteran of MARPG

What is your character's personality?
Amala is tomboyish, outgoing, mischievous and enjoys attention of any sort.  She is mostly harmless, but her competitive and ambitious nature drive her to try to outdo her older sister.  Being the younger of the two by minutes drives her that much more.  She is very active.
What things does she like?
Attention, competitive events (particularly of a physical nature), advanced technologies, revenge, the thrill of the impossible, interested in the field of special ops for many of the previously mentioned reasons.

Physical interests including acrobatics, foot races, climbing, and sparring using a combination of Greco-Roman style wrestling with a judo-like form of Cheetah unarmed combat.

Amala has shown interest in finding out more about lift technology and the nature of technomage implants.

Having to obey a lot of rules, boredom, losing, sticklers for rules (including security)

What are the strong points of your character?
Amala is ambitious, capable of taking care of herself, capable of sharp focus at times.  She is highly intelligent, quick to adapt, capable of thinking of her feet, quick to grasp how to use new technology, very speedy on land, and reasonably agile and powerful.

She finds it easy to reach out to new people, and has a lot of charm, much like her sister.

Weak points?
Her disdain for rules lands her in trouble, particularly when she goes a bit far to get attention or to win a contest of who can get away with the most.  She, like her sister, tends to hop into things before fully thinking them through.

Her personality will rub many people the wrong way, particularly those people who believe the rules are there for a reason and ought to be obeyed.  She may be a bit overwhelming for shy people.

Like Amani, she tends to take credit for those plans which work, resulting in a sort of infamy.

Name one thing your character would never do and why.
She would never betray friends, especially her sister.  The two have a nigh unbreakable bond and despite their desire to outdo each other, they remain the best of friends.

She also has lines she won't cross, even for attention.  This includes inflicting physical harm beyond minor bruises, breaking up friendships, even of those people she doesn't like, and inflicting significant psychological damage.  If she realizes a plan in motion has significant potential to cause any of the above, said plan is aborted as soon as feasible.

How does she interact with others?
Amala gets along with most people, although she will tend to avoid those who take a disliking to her ways, including most security personnel.  She might, however, seek to push the buttons of 'Type A' people if she finds a method to do so, usually in an indirect method.

She is very often found in the company of Amani, her sister.  The two tend to be a bit noisy at times, like to argue and debate each other and anyone else interested.  Matters are often settled by some physical contest, which can vary widely depending on what's being debated, and where they are.  She is very quick to defend and protect her sister from anyone else though.

As far as pranks goes, Amala prefers employing any technology she thinks may be useful, and although she doesn't prefer it has been known to use her feminine wiles to further an immediate goal.  This includes the tactics of distraction and enlistment.  She prefers action to mindgames.

Amala prefers to avoid direct conflict and will tend to flee if too much trouble arises.  Her pranks tend towards the theatrical in some manner.  It is noteworthy that victims who protest too much do tend to be targeted again.

What are their abilities, hobbies, things they're good at?
Amala is a powerful athlete, enjoying competitive racing (both sprints and marathons), and a mix wresting and a Cheetah form of judo.  Amala doesn't pull punches or kicks, but she does regulate the strength of her moves so as to avoid harming her sparring partner.

She is able to move about quietly, highly aware of her surroundings, and is learning to make use of various Cyantian technologies as well.

She also knows the basics of knife-fighting from her days in the desert.  However, she doesn't particularly enjoy it, and will only wield her knife against another to defend herself, her sister, or close friends, if fleeing is not an immediate option.

MENTION if they carry some sort of weapon.
Amala has with her at any time an ornamental knife, which she typically only uses for utility purposes.  She won't attack another with it except in self-defense (as a last resort).

Give an example description of your character.
Amala has a lean but feminine build, 6'2" in height. She has a white underbelly and her fur is tan with black spots in a pattern nearly (but not quite fully) identical to her sister.  She has sandy blond hair and brown eyes like her sister. Those familiar with the twins may be able to distinguish them by fur pattern, but it is difficult.

She dresses in slightly altered traditional Cheetah clothing, which looks like a loose tunic, cutoff just above the elbows and knees, in a pale, sandy color, and held in place around her waist with a blue sash.  Of course all of this is rather plain, and so Amala adds to the outfit a large blue bow just above the tail, as well as another smaller blue bow which holds her sandy brown hair in a top-knot.  She typically sports large jewel-like earrings as well.

She has, however, been known to adopt Amani's style of dress at times.

What qualities or traits does your character have that would be useful to the Mars Academy currently, or in the future when it becomes a colony? This includes skills, and for those that would need to apply, qualifications.
Amala possess a keen wit, excellent physical conditioning, and capable of serious and keen focus.  Her stealth and adaptability are also potential assets to a career in special ops.

Why does your character want to be at the Academy rather than at another Academy, or some other location?
It's unknown who decided upon Mars Academy, or why exactly they chose it, but possible reasons may include it?s advanced culture and technology, a chance to find out about other cultures from all over Cyantia, its special ops program, and the fact that many didn't think wild girls from a nomadic Cheetah tribe could ever get into such an advanced academy.

As for why two girls from a Cheetah tribe would want to come to such a different kind of world, they are the youngest in a large family, and disliked the traditionalism of their native lands.  They don't really have much of a future there either, to be honest, and find their new surroundings a much better fit.

What goals does your character have for the future?
To become the best special ops agents anyone has ever known.
To win whatever bet or competition is currently coming up.

What is your characters nature and thoughts on others of her species?
Amala, like her sister, isn't fond of the conservative traditions of her people.  She thinks of them as backwards and somewhat stifling.  She's not particularly fond of many of her other siblings or her parents, although she doesn't despise them either.

She isn't overly fond of any of the Mounty traditionalism elsewhere, but finds the higher tech Mounty culture a little more tolerable.

What is her view on other species?
Amala is curious about other cultures, and judges them based on what she hears, and how well that meshes with her way of life.  The main factor in judging her like or dislike of a culture is in how much liberty one gets to strike their own path.

Please answer the following in a couple paragraphs: What is your character's history? Who is or was your characters family? What were the important events of your characters past? What kind of life did they have before they arrived at the academy?
Amala and Amani are among the youngest daughters of a lower noble of the Cheetah people, Bashira Kanara.  Their mother runs the affairs of the rather large family, whose main responsibility is running the trade route with the nearby mountain Mounties.

Various members of the family take on roles of hunting on the plains, gathering various supplies from natural sources and preparing them for use, crafting both necessities and various tribal goods that are used in both tribal traditions and bartered for other goods they need or want.  There are a few in the family who make use of light lifts who serve as a small family defense force if need be, as life on the plains can be dangerous at times.  However, technology like light lifts are difficult to come by, and are considered very precious.  All members of the family are trained in basic unarmed combat and knife combat.

The mother, Bashira Kanara, is a caring older woman, a woman of wise judgment and a very capable leader.  However, with many sons and daughters, in addition to the heavy responsibility of overseeing most of what goes on during their journeys, she hasn't had a lot of time to dedicate to providing attention to many of the younger children.  As a result, the twins were often ignored, which drove them to find ways to get attention, including a lot of antics frowned upon by their local customs.

On one trip to the bordering Mounty hall, the Three Sisters Foundation, a Mounty charity organization which provides educational opportunities for the 'less fortunate' took note of the pair, noting the great potential they had for achievement.  They offered the chief a scholarship for her two youngest daughters to attend an academy, recognizing that these troublemakers had a high degree of intelligence and potential, and their charity specialized in bringing out the potential of 'disadvantaged children' like these.

Bashira considered this offer for a brief time.  She wanted her daughters to follow the traditions of her people, traditions very important to her.  However, she loved her daughters as well, and wanted the best for them, even if it meant they would enter into a different world than her own.  Because her family was doing well enough, and because it seemed unlikely her wild daughters would ever change, she accepted the offer and ushered the girls in, hoping that perhaps they would fulfill the potential these people saw in them.

The twins, of course, were very happy to accept when told about it.  Amala was eager to see what all the world had to offer, to explore, and to strike out on her own and accomplish greater things than she could accomplish here.  As a plus, the idea of finding out about technologies even better than the very impressive light lifts she had seen some in her family use intrigued her.

Additional Note
The Three Sisters Foundation is an organization Syke has created in this universe, and is slotted to make an appearance in the Genoworks Saga.  It's not too much of a stretch that they might show interest in other less fortunate Cyantians as well.
