“Vas?” Triv trilled lowly, being awakened by the chick’s fluttering wings against his side. Triv grunted as a tail whapped hard against his head.

“Eeepeep…” Vas squeaked in a panic.

Triv purred and thumped Vas’s head with his muzzle, rolling him upright. The chick awoke with a start, jumping closer to his father. He stared into the darkness, breathing shallowly. “Nightmares, Vas?” Triv shifted back a little so that his head could be even with Vas’.

“I don’t want to go back to sleep!” Vas panted, every hair along the back of his neck and shoulders sitting upright.
