How much experience do you have with role-playing? How much time have you spent on MUSHs/MUXs/etc.? Little actual experience, have been exposed a little to it, though.
What is your character's personality? Very outgoing, mischievious, and curious. Ruti has a lot of energy and imagination, and likes to ask a lot of questions and find a lot of answers. He is only occasionally prone to pranks, and limits his targets to those he knows personally. He has a slight tendency to speak before thinking as well.

What things does he like? He is obsessed with spies and detectives and highly interested in the related areas of technology and technomagery. He has also has been known to take pictures and wear disguises as a part of his playing out the conjurings of his mind. On a minor but potentially important note, he likes the taste and smell of fruit.  He is also fond of animals in general, with any discovered creature being a potential pet (in his mind).

Dislike? The two main things Ruti dislikes is boredom and romancy stuff. This dislike of boredom makes some classes problematic, especially classes like grammar and math (although he does OK in them). His dislike of romance colors how he deals with females, although he doesn't mind them unless they start with things he considers to be "girly".

What are the strong points of your character? Ruti has a strong imagination, good intelligence, and owing to his youth and fox genes is highly agile and stealthy. (He has no special abilities, he's just very quiet when he wants to be.) (Note here: His outgoing personality is the counterbalance to his stealth. He doesn't sneak unless he has a reason to want to do so.)

He has a strong fascination with history and some sciences, and has some ability to work with animals.

Weak points? Ruti lacks the maturity of an adult Cyantian, and a combination of impetuousness and impatience often land him in trouble. He is also naive about dangers and the motives of others, since he lacks in actual experience. He is lacking in physical strength.

He has recently started to think more like an adult, but isn't quite there yet.

Name one thing your character would never do and why. Ruti would never pass up an adventure or mystery. His curiousity will not allow it. He also will not allow himself to be kissed or cuddled if he can help it. Also, Ruti will not strike out at an adult, due to motherly conditioning.

How does he interact with others? Ruti likes to talk with anyone with common interests, which includes any adults in the area. He will ask questions of them, answer questions they may ask him. He may ask what others are up to even if they have few common interests, and may add his own point of view of things at times, making reference of the spy/detective fiction he likes so much.

He would tend to hang around engineering and technomage students in order to learn what he can early on, and such students may offer demonstrations of their achievements and small knick-knacks, including minor prankish things which are discouraged on the campus. It depends on the individual in question.

Some of the more mischievious students may use Ruti for some of their plots, giving him small spy-like assignments as a part of a larger plot. In fact, such favors may be the cost for acquiring the various knick-knacks, or they may charge a small fee for them.

He has the unfortunate habit of snooping into other's things, although being an honest sort, he will not steal anything belonging to someone else, but will place it back in its place after his curiosity is satisfied.

Some other notes: He speaks Khaasi in the home, but Cyanzian (Latin) outside of the home. Khaasi tends to be used by his mother to chastise him. He will not strike back at an adult, since he has been conditioned to be submissive by his mother.  He is also showing signs that he recognizes roleplay as being play.  Also, he has started to think of others as well.

What are their abilities, hobbies, things they're good at? Ruti can move about quietly, and has some minor ability at photography and crafting (including props and disguises). He also takes very good care of his mini-whip, Rokfriez (named after the assistant of the highly logical Ad'Iglen Visindi) whom he managed to tame from birth after being given him as a pet by his father. Rokfriez is a somewhat lazy pet most of the time.

Tools of the trade (including weapons) Ruti possesss the following items. A simple multitool without a sharp blade, a good dataplate which he uses for school and for play, a good digicorder, a small listening device and remote earpiece, perhaps a fairly cheap motion detection device, a secret cache of prankish things including very crude fur-dye devices received from unknown sources (technomage and engineering students being the primary suspects), and any number of props and pieces of disguises. Many of the costume pieces/props are commercial items.

He has a small whistle he uses to call his mini-whip to him.

He always wears a bracelet which has the equivalent of a GPS transceiver in it. It is used by the parents to track Ruti down when needed, and usually sits idle otherwise. Ruti does not suspect anything about it. The device is self-sustaining energy-wise, and would have enough "features" (digital encoder, etc) that it is a normal part of Ruti's attire by his own choice.  The bracelet bears the likeness of Jana Bovine on it.

Give an example description of your character. Ruti Fidael is a short fox kit, about 3'11", with red fur with white belly undertones in a traditional pattern and a short spiky black cropping of hair on top _{(Think Yahiko of Kenshin)}. All four paws, as well as the tips of his ears and tail, are black as well. He has brown eyes. I'm going to assume for now there is no uniform for his school.

Why is it essential to your character to be here in the Mars Academy? He is here because his father works as a Lab Technician, and lives on campus. His mother has no official position but has been known to help organize events on campus and in the community.

What are their qualifications? The father, Taisha Fidael, has a passing knowledge of the sciences, as well as the technical skills needed to provide support in keeping the lab facilities up to date and running well. His work ethic and attention to detail is impeccable.  Taisha has been known to substitute for science professors on rare occasion, especially for days with heavy lab work.

What traits do they have that are useful to the future colony? The father is intelligent, and a hard and honest worker. His attention to detail and safety are above reproach. The mother is a natural organizer, and very content to remain humbly behind the scenes while making sure local events run smoothly.  Ruti brings to Mars Academy a child-like enthuiasm and great potential in his quest to become a technomage sometime down the road.

What are their goals in being here? Ruti's goal is to find the next adventure, although he does wish to attend Mars Academy as a technomage student one day, and has interest in the field of covert ops. He dreams of one day figuring out how to shift physical appearance at will using technomagery.

At some point during his mother's pregnancy, a desire to be a great big brother has manifested itself.

What is your characters nature and thoughts on others of his/her species? Ruti may have some slight prejudice against Fox due to a general Wolf dislike of traditional Fox attitudes. This is, however, more than offset by Ruti's general willingness to trust others, and the fact that many of the Fox he has known have been of the decent sort, rather than the haughty Fox often associated with the Fox states.  (He was raised in Wolf-controlled territory after all.)

What is his or her view on other species? Ruti has only ever known life within Wolf territory, and has the normal prejudices of a typical citizen under the Akaelaes and the Council. He is still getting used to humans, but has no large bias for or against any other race, although some of the more elite and powerful classes earn his awe and respect for their abilities. (Notable are the Sirac, the species of the fictional spy "Umbra Mens")

Please answer the following in a couple paragraphs: What is your character's history? Who is or was your characters family? What were the important events of your characters past? What kind of life did they have before they arrived at the academy?

Ruti's family consists of his father Taisha Fidael, an orange Fox, and his mother Noiya K'lim Fidael, a blue Fox. He had a red fox godfather, as per Fox tradition, but the godfather died during the plague which hit about a year after they came to Wolf lands.

The father, a orange fox scientist known to have dissenting views on many things in the Fox government, fled when his blue-furred wife became pregnant, for fear of what might happen to his son on his account. Once in Wolf territory, he worked temp jobs for a brief period of time, until the quality of his work landed him a good job with Avistary Academy as a lab technician. He was chosen as one of the staff to move to Mars for a new project 2 years ago and his family moved with him.

(Family historical note: A tragedy had happened to the kit one of Taisha's friends with similar views about a rot or so before his wife's pregnancy, and it was generally known it was retaliation for expression of views counter to the interests of the ruling class. Seeing as the circumstances are now generally good, and no reason exists to think upon or speak of it, the details will remain unknown. The key reason for this is that it was the final piece of the picture on why a normally content Fox who favors the low risk action would have moved to a strange land rather than staying where he was.)

Ruti has had things fairly easy since Avistary Academy, and never really known adversity. He's always been well off, although the family isn't all that wealthy.

It's been established that Ishmael is one of the students Ruti has befriended, and that he loves to ask him questions about technomagery.  Any further nature of their relationship remains uncertain until it is worked out by Josh and myself.  Ruti eagerly awaits the birth of his siblings.

Roleplaying experience:
Minor exposure previous to this. The RPG here is my first direct experience.

Personality: Noiya is very sociable and friendly, an active helper whenever she gets a chance, and almost always calm. She is a natural and effective leader, but adaptable and prefers to let others lead. She possesses a powerful intuition where the motive of others is concerned.

Likes:
Noiya enjoys interacting with other people, whether it is simply chatting idly, working on a project, or some form of physical recreation. Her favorite topic are local events, or larger events which affect daily life. She also enjoys helping out students who come to her, and will offer to befriend anyone who seems to need help adapting.
Dislikes:
Noiya has little patience for insincere people and pranks, and isn't fond of social missteps.

Strong Points:
Noiya is a natural and effective leader and organizer when the need arises, and tends to remain calm and composed. Her leadership style is very deliberate, but adaptable. She also has the ability to empathize with others, making her a good candidate for others to turn to. She also speaks Cyanzian, Khaasi, and some English.  She's also a good cook.

Weak Points:
Noiya possesses no technical skills or expertise, which means she must rely upon others if such is needed.

Name one thing your character would never do and why.
Noiya would never lose her temper, because she knows when you lose your temper, you lose your ability to approach the situation rationally. Noiya would also never turn down a request for help without good reason. After all, her chosen role is to help where she can, in the manner in which she can help the most.

How does she interact with others?
Noiya actively keeps track of her circle of friends. She is, however, always on the lookout for others to get to know. Noiya's demeanor is friendly, helpful, and relatively informal, and she generally attempts to find out about the person first. She enjoys learning more about the person's past and their interests, and willing to talk about most anything, although she prefers local events, and can't really say much about topics of a technical nature.

Noiya and Taisha genuinely love each other and will sometimes take some time to enjoy each other's company. They generally work together in all things and fights are rare. Noiya allows Taisha final say in all decision matters, but is willing to give her advice (which Taisha generally acknowledges and accepts.)

Noiya is also a fairly stern disciplinarian, and essentially runs the daily household operations. While Taisha is usually the one who makes any final decisions which affect the whole family, she does advise him, and can make any urgent decisions that he may not be there to make. Noiya is generally the one Ruti talks to if he needs some comforting or advice from an adult that doesn't involve the possibility of punishment.

She uses Ruti's full name and the Khaasi tongue in order to chastise Ruti and stop any protest he may raise.

Skills, Hobbies, Etc
Noiya was a secretary for 10 years, and keeps excellent notes and records. She is also a keen and intuitive listener and makes a good counseller and comforter. Her deliberate manner and matter of fact approach make her a natural organizer as well.  She is a good cook, and often trades recipes in order to expand her knowledge.

Physical Appearance
Noiya is a blue fox with styled white hair, and emerald eyes, 4'10" with moderate but healthy build. She prefers simple but decorative clothing, usually a pretty shirt and matching slacks or medium to long length skirt.

Why is she here at Mars Academy?
Noiya is here to support her husband in his staff position at the academy, and to raise their son.

Noiya is a natural organizer and counsellor, although her efforts in this area are entirely volunteer.

What are their goals in being here?
Noiya's primary goal is to raise her son to be an upstanding member of society. Aside from that, Noiya wishes to help others in whatever manner she can, particularly enjoys helping others to adjust to a different society.  Noiya is interested in learning of other cultures as well.

She is also due very soon and eager to raise new kits.

What is your characters nature and thoughts on others of his/her species?
Noiya has a special place in her heart for the young foxes at the academy, and enjoys talking with them (particular those who only speak Khaasi). She doesn't think so highly of the Fox culture she came out of.

What is his or her view on other species?
Noiya is fond of the Wolf culture and thinks highly of wolves in general. She is curious about the culture of various other species, and enjoys hearing about them.  She tends to be open-minded of any other culture until given reason not to.  After all, she knows what it is like to be shunned simply for your race.

Noiya K'lim was an only daughter of two blue foxes. She quickly showed an aptitude for keeping track of information and was employed as a secretary for a local office, a job she enjoyed. 16 years ago she met a scientist by the name of Taisha while out with friends. He seemed different from most foxes, and after a period of a year, they began courting. A year later they were married.

She discovered she was pregnant 2 years after that, and Taisha seemed to be worried when he heard the news. It turns out that Taisha was happy to have a child to raise, but worried owing to the fact his beliefs might endanger his new child. Her husband, who tended not to make rash moves, decided to take a big risk and move out to other lands. Noiya herself was worried about the move, and advised against it, but was willing to go with her husband.

The relocation was made with the aid of friends with no incident, shortly before the Fox Plague hit.

Arriving in Centralis, the couple found themselves amongst those who did not trust Fox. However, they were able to survive off the combination of social services of the Wolf government, and the various odd jobs Taisha was able to perform. In the meanwhile, Noiya was able to get to know the neighbors, and the initial distrust turned to friendships, especially after Noiya was able to pick up at least some Cyanzian.

Eventually Taisha was able to get a position as a lab tech in Avistary Academy, when a representative of the academy took notice of his keen attention to detail. With this position came a form of financial freedom, and new friends. Noiya was able to master Cyanzian while at the academy and began helping her husband pick it up as well. She raised Ruti in a combination of both languages, using Khaasi at home, and using Cyanzian when out in public.

Taisha was selected for a labtech position at a new facility over near Earth, with a recommendation by his supervisor, and so the family made the move to Mars Academy.

If you're applying for a character that's been at the academy a while, what's happened to them at the academy? How have they spent their time here?
For the last year or so, Noiya has been raising Ruti, getting to know the neighbors, and helping out where she can. She's also trying to learn English, so she can talk with the humans who haven't yet learned Cyanzian (or Khaasi).

Noiya recently discovered she is pregnant and is nearly due.  She currently rides on a mobility device Frost provided her.

Owned NPC - Taisha Fidael - Father and Lab Tech for Mars Academy.

Physical Appearance - Orange Fox with neatly cut black hair, 4'10" with lean build. Conservative dress, with a tendency towards the formal. He is 39 years old.

Personality - Conservative, formal, and pleasant. He is slightly introverted, but fairly friendly to those who know him. He has an aversion to risk, and therefore acts with caution, both in actions and in words. Some of this may stem from his experiences in Fox lands. He has an air of contentment about him, but still has some aspirations.

Likes and Dislikes - He loves his family more than anything else, especially fond of his son, Rutilus. It was for Rutilus that he took the biggest risk he has ever made, and he knows the likes and dislikes of his son well. His other primary interest is in the sciences, and he may sit in on some classes, or learn on his own in the library, reading up on both the basic information in certain fields, and in advanced publications which arrive on campus.

His primary dislikes are undue risk, laziness, and unethical practices. He sees some of these in Ruti, but is confident he can help Ruti to overcome these faults. These dislikes also extend to those he works with, whether the offender has a position below, above, or equal to his own. If they offend his dislike enough, he will take them aside and let them know.

Interaction - In general, Taisha is known only in limited circles, and doesn't often talk with others outside his normal social circles. His demeanor is generally professional but warm.

In regards to his family, Taisha is a stern disciplinarian, a loving father who enjoys giving Rutilus gifts he likes (within reason), and works well with Noiya, his wife in raising their son. The means of discipline is primarily the loss of privileges and the loss of use for some of his toys for a time. Taisha is the main decision-maker, but always consults his wife if possible. The two are usually of one mind and don't often disagree.

He always calls Rutilus by his full first name, rather than "Ruti", and will reason with Ruti in order to get him to obey.  Only if the reasoning fails will he use the Khaasi tongue and a full name, but such need is rare.

He will show small signs of affection with Noiya in public, but is very mindful to remain professional.  In private, however, he loosens up a great deal.  He also looks out for small ways to make his wife happy, such as giving out her contact information to students whom he knows she would like.

In his job, Taisha is always professional and to the point, but polite.  If he is helping a professor, or substituting for one, he will expect students to give their full attention to the class, and expects them to ask for help if they need it, but will provide it willingly.  He will be quiet but stern in dealing with troublesome students.

Goals: Taisha's primary goals are to serve one day as a researcher or professor, and to raise his son to be a model citizen and productive member of society.  His short term goal as an employee is to keep the labs in the best condition possible. 

Taisha is excited about becoming a father again, but tends to hide this fact well from most.

Rokfriez - Blue Mini-whip

Rokfriez is a blue mini-whip, about 16 inchs long.  He was raised from an egg by Rutilus, a gift given to him by Taisha, his father in order to teach him to be responsible.

Rokfriez is somewhat lazy a lot of the time, but very tame and it's very rare that he has lashed out at any creature.  When he is awake, he will often play and explore, is very friendly to strangers most of the time.  He has been known to beg.

Double-Q - Dusty Brown Martian Platypus (aka "Martian Duck") (Feel free to offer suggestions here, this is a rough copy)

The Martian Platypus is a relatively unknown species of wildlife that lives out in the Martian landscape. They are a lithovoric species, with keen earing and eyesight, are somewhat swift of foot and superb diggers.  Double-Q is still very young, and after overcoming her fear of these strange creatures who captured her, she has started to latch onto the smaller red kit.

Double-Q is 7 inches standing up, and about 10 inches long head-to-tail.  She is dusty brown, with solid golden-yellow eyes, and resembles a shivae in her stance, although she has a head resembling a duck's, has webbed hands and feet, and her claws are much shorter and fairly blunt.

Double-Q has yet to be housetrained and taught what to eat or not to eat, which is an unusual problem because her meals can include small electronic gadgets.  Thankfully, a science team assigned to study her once a week was able to find out a lot about the species, and food for Double-Q is fairly easy and inexpensive to come by.

Double-Q will tend to stick close to the a Cyantian creature as a protective measure, but has started to think of Ruti as her "mother".  Once she's familiar with a particular environment, she may tend to look around it more in order to explore it, bt will retreat at the first sign of danger or the unfamiliar.  She doesn't quite trust other pets at first, but has figured out that Rokfriez is friendly.

Rokfriez and Double-Q have developed a means of communicating.

Found these on my hard drive from the old forums.  Jenna appeared momentarily in a supermarket thread, and Simma appears only in their conversation.  I claim no full ownership of either, and either is free to be submitted by any player, in addition to their husbands.

They aren't likely to appear often or for long.  (Simma is now with Noiya in a Spaceport thread, although this isn't canon.)

Additional info: (mostly for my sake)

Noiya enjoys cooking a wide variety of dishes, and is a good and efficient cook, although she isn't a spectacular cook. She has acquired several recipes (including a fruitcake recipe) by swapping her own recipes with others.

Noiya's NPC friends:

Jenna - Grey Wolf - She has children,a friendly and caring personality, and tends to be very busy keeping track of everything. Her children are very active. Most likely, she is primarily a parent, while her husband works. She is in her early 30s.

Simma - Lion Mounty - In the later stages of pregnancy, very friendly and likes to make others feel welcome. One of Noiya's first friends at Mars Academy, and the wife of one of the instructors. (Tentatively, I want to say he's one of the language instructors, but this hasn't been set in stone yet). She is a decent cook, and currently 4 months pregnant with her first child. Both she and her husband are fairly young, probably 21-25 years of age.

What is your character's personality?
Bali has a gentle and generous disposition, although he doesn't tolerate misbehavior in his tavern.  He is known as a spiritual person, and serves a role similar to that of a clergyman.  He is inherently honest and transparent.

What things does he like?
Talking with students and campus, admiring the beauty of creation, taking life quietly and simply.  He adores his wife, Tonga, who shares many of his personality traits.

Dislike?
Violent or harmful behavior, especially in his tavern.  Arrogance and a better-than-thou attitude.

What are the strong points of your character?
An ample supply of wisdom, and a gentle method of distributing it.  He is also a good businessman with a honest and hard-working ethic.

Weak points?
Bali is a simple person, and depends on others for some things.  Bouncers for handling undesirable customers, technical minds for the more advanced technical aspects of his business.

Bali would never demean another without ample cause.  To do so would be to demean the work of the Creator.  He is also very slow to anger, preferring to have problem customers removed before they can get under his skin.  Lastly, he would not turn down a request for help or advice without good reason.  He feels his main purpose in life is to help others.

How does he interact with others?
Bali is a quiet soul, and is not prone to any exaggerated mannerisms.  He is a good listener and willing to supply his advice, but only if it is requested.  On the whole, he is a merry spirit, and his words tend to be uplifting.

What are their abilities, hobbies, things they're good at?
Bali is an excellent cook and drink-maker, as well as avid gardener.  He also likes reading and enjoys writing poetry as well.

Give an example description of your character.
Bali is a 5' Digni, with typical brownish coloration, tan eyes, mid-length black hair, and the usual Digni build.  His wife has similar appearance, but has longer black hair which she braids in a somewhat intricate pattern.

What qualities or traits does your character have that would be useful to the Mars Academy currently, or in the future when it becomes a colony?
The "Haven Pub" is a good place for others to unwind, and Bali is seen as a sort of spiritual leader by some.

Why does your character want to be at the Academy rather than at another Academy, or some other location?
It is a good, quiet place to do business, and the quality of the staff and students is excellent.

What goals does your character have for the future?
To run the tavern for as long as he can, and to help those whom he comes across.

What is your characters nature and thoughts on others of his/her species?
The Digni are a good and wise people on the whole.

What is his or her view on other species?
Some species as a whole have allowed themselves to go in a wrong direction, but most of the individuals Bali has known have been at least somewhat decent.

What is your character's history? Who is or was your characters family? What were the important events of your characters past? What kind of life did they have before they arrived at the academy?
The Digni community Bali comes from is known by nearby locals as a quiet, friendly community willing to reach out to those in need, as well as a source of food and herbs among the merchants of the area.  Among those who live in the village, the Tavi family has been known as the family who most embodies the hospitable nature of their community, and many of Bali's older relatives have long been seen as wise counsel for those seeking answers to questions of life and spiritual matters.

When Bali was still young, his father sought an opportunity to bring some of their culture to Centralis, and struck out with his family moving to a small Digni community within Centralis, where he opened a place that the locals could call a second home and a safeplace to go to.  The tavern was named "Haven Pub" to indicate his purpose for it.  It was a place one could get a drink, some food, chat with other locals in a friendly environment, and it didn't take long to add some fairly simple games into the place as well.

Bali began to help with various aspects of running the business at an early age, his father teaching him bit by bit what he needed to know to be successful at it.  One of the major keys he was given was that he needed to be able to relate to the customers on a personal level.  The other was to make quality product to serve, never cutting corners.

Bali's family did make occasional trips back home, where Bali would get a chance to talk with various aunts and uncles, as well as other members of their village.  At around 16, he got a chance to speak with Tonga, a female villager his age, whom he enjoyed socializing with, and kept in touch.  He began making trips of his own before long, and after a fairly long courtship, he married Tonga, and brought her back to Centralis.  By now, Bali would sometimes run things on his own while his parents were out, and he enlisted his wife to help as well.  They had 2 children soon enough, and split time between helping with the business and raising their kids.

Around 8 years before the Mars Project started, Bali met Taisha and Noiya Fidael, who had recently moved to Centralis from Vixinte.  They were a bit discouraged because of the distrust they had received, although they did have some friends.  Nonetheless, Bali served as comfort early on, and after discovering they had similar worldviews, Bali became a close friend of the family.  At some point in time, Taisha found work at Avistarian Academy and moved off with his family, but he did keep in touch with an occasional letter.

Around 2-3 years ago, Taisha wrote to Bali, telling him there might be commercial opportunities opening up on a planet called Mars, and gave him some contact information.  Bali sought the advice of his father, who thought it would be an excellent idea to pursue, and offered to finance the new branch.  By now, Bali's children were adults, one returned to Bali's home village, and the other stayed in Centralis.  So Bali and Tonga started the venture on their own, and it turned out to be a success, just as the Centralis pub had been.  Bali wouldn't be as wealthy as some, but his profit was sufficient to meet his fairly humble needs and still be able to give to the community.  The same had been largely true of Bali's father.

On most any given day, you can find Bali and Tonga in the Haven Pub.  Their living quarters are attached to the pub, and they enjoy socializing with the regular customers even when they're not actually working.  Tonga is also a gifted musician who sometimes performs for fun, and Bali has been known to wax poetic.  The Fidaels are among their customer base, and sometimes visit even if they don't need anything.
