Title: The (non-political) W.T.F. Thread
Post by: St Anger on May 16, 2009, 09:25:03 PM
The Burj Al Arab Hotel

http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=340233

Apparently what is shown is their "two-star" room.

They claim to be the only "seven-star" luxury hotel in the world.

...dang. That's the two star room? That's classier than any hotel I've ever been in, or seen. :o

MO-FO! Thats a nice place.  :o

Just wonder what they charge a night? :-\
One night = arm
Three nights = leg(s)
Week = First born child

Heck the nicest one I ever stayed in was the Hotel Western, and it had roaches. :P

You forgot "pound of flesh closest to your heart" ;D

Given that he he mentioned that everything was covered in gold, and that that's the two star room, I'd expect the prices there to also be the highest in the world.

I wish scientists would get off cloning.  It's not the way of the future.  Genetic diversity can't be superseded by cloning.  If there's not enough left, they die (which includes humans).  It's the way of nature.

What I'm wtfing about is Disney's acquisition of Marvel Comics.  The end is near...

And what do they plan to do with the wolves if successful?  They keep trying to kill off the ones that reproduce naturally.  :P

*ponders whether Disney will corrupt Marvel, or vice versa*

Ok, for mine: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1983514/harry_potter_so_good_even_the_pope.html?cat=40

The pope hated the previous movies and books as evil... but unless the movie is significantly different from the book, one where Harry becomes obsessed with Malfoy and revenge, starts using curses and dark magic, and the bad guys have a major victory towards the end... is good?

Disney always wins, they destroy everything they touch.  I think in the next few years we'll see Pixar crashing and burning.  What they've put out lately was likely things they already had in the works before Disney got them.  I've heard Ponyo was pretty terrible compared to Miyazaki's other works, and I think that has something to do with Studio Gihbli doing their american licensing through Disney. I only hope Stan Lee had the sense to keep a hold tightly on X-Men and Spiderman, and now has the sense to run full bore away from Marvel to get the rest of the new movies made under different management.

Honestly though, how much worse could disney have made Wolverine Origins?
Title: Re: non-political wtf thread
Post by: Renessa on September 01, 2009, 05:38:25 PM
WHHHHAAAATTTT?!  :o

Okay, I admit the composite mutant stuff was pretty stupid, and they TOTALLY failed at Gambit (the best character ever), but I mean... Epic back story for the win.  I'm not gonna lie, I cried a little when he didn't recognize his dead girl after getting shot in the head.  The core of the movie was good and explained a lot about how Logan is today (to me at least), the excuse they used for conflict was not.

Title: Re: non-political wtf thread
Post by: St Anger on September 01, 2009, 08:27:11 PM
Perhaps I was too harsh. Of course the story of freakin Wolverine IS epic. I wanted to know his history, and now I know it.
But too much of the movie was cliche followed by predicable cliche. Plot depth and character development were sacrificed for cameos, effects, and 'shock' twists that everyone could see coming.
The biggest problem with that movie: adamantium bullets.
Really?    ...Really?

Good personal story about Logan; bad pretty much everything else

This woman is considered plus size at a size 12...  Kudos to the fact that there are intelligent people out there who see how beautiful she really is, but wtf that any one would consider THAT plus sized.  Like I said to the person who linked this on facebook, Tyra Banks and Cindy Crawford are now consider plus at size 10, and that's the size they've always been.

Debating on whether the latest Survivor belonged here or in complaints.  I had my doubts when all they advertised was that it had the worst villain ever... turns out it's a multimillionaire oil executive who only joined because he enjoys making as many people as possible as miserable as possible, and his goal is to put the other players through a living hell.

In the first episode 3/4 of the show was devoted to him, his insults of females at every opportunity as well as a few at other races, showed him gloating when people got upset in the morning when he snuck out during the night and dumped all the drinking water and tossed others' personal property into the fire... and they're advertising next he's going to destroy his own tribe's food supply next.  This guy should be locked up, not promoted, so unless the next episode features him getting eaten by a crocodile, I'm not watching the rest of this season.  Hopefully it's their lowest rated season ever.

Around about season three-four it fully hit me that they purposefully pick borderline sociopaths as contestants to ensure drama.  I think the only reason I watched after that was for Rupert (still love that guy, he's beast), and that old chinese guy that made a fake idol and stashed it back where he found the real one and TOTALLY fooled the dumb young kids.  The mark of a true pro.

Despite the fact that this is the "non-political" version, I think it's been pretty obvious for years that the olympic committee operates and decides solely on "donations" and not on the "capacity"/"appropriateness"/"heart and soul" of a host city/nation, or in the case of disputes over medals and drugs and such the "facts".  Unless that capacity has to do with the number of dump trucks of money they can pour into their pockets, their willingness to send said dump trucks, and a general tendency toward phoniness that allows them to look nice but be extremely corrupt in the background.  Just like them.

Okay, back to the regularly scheduled golden toilets and thick-womenz. :P

The obvious plot solution to this problem being them realizing the fancy schmancy trees are the source of the unobtainium, ala the sandworms from dune. Mind you, this doesn't stop them from simply nerve gassing the planet's surface or using other methods that disrupt the fauna without destroying the flora

No, the best solution is to refine the Unobtainium into Plot-Holium and use it to break the fourth wall to beat up James Cameron, forcing him to write an original script that doesn't crib off of older movies.

Or, you know, just MINE SOMEWHERE ELSE!  Yeah, it's the motherload, but there's other deposits of Unobtainium.

Actually, I kind've like that idea though it has the drawback of the hordes of rabid fans that would then swarm whomever did the job and rend them limb from limb. Also, WHY did they call it Unobtainium?! thats like saying that the stuff is just an arbitrary mcguffin. Really, they could've just called it something like mcguffinite, at least that way they're digging up ore instead of raw silliness metal that really has no point in the film except as an excuse for a fight to break out.

Though, the longwall mining does look like it could've been an acceptable alternate and really, if they couldn't get the natives to simply move out then with all their crazy tech I don't see why they couldn't have just grabbed a adequately nearby chunk of land and surrupticiously dug under the tree to get at it.

Or they just could get such a ship like in "Dead Space" (If anyone played it) and rip the whole planet appart to mine the ore.

Hah! A horde of rabid fans is only marginally worse than a horde of zombies.  They've got enough technology to get James Cameron out and do the job on a space ship.

And it's called Unobtainium because:

A: They did not want to call it Aesoptinium.
B: To represent that it is unattainable and the greedy fools will not get their supply of it.
C: Because Hollywood is almost completely bereft of Creativity, Class, Tact and Talent.

If you guessed "C", you get a cookie.

Hex: If they cracked the planet like that it would unleash vengeful souls who would possess the crew of the ship.  Thus, we'd get a follow the leader movie/game in the same vein as Dead Space.

Planet cracking won't work anyway, gravity prevents it splitting unless you use enough energy to overcome it, in which case you either won't be able to catch up with the particles or make it too dangerous to mine.

Fwiw unobtanium is made from decomposed offenhauser inlet manifolds, rust free English cars, good American beer and the keys to my bike lock. :P

Dead Space stands out because the main character uses tools as weapons and other such things that horror protagonists usually don't do.  Also, the limbs as weak points was a first in a long time in the survival horror genre.  The last I can recall was Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

You're playing it wrong if you haven't!  Some of those hallucinations are sadistic in how much they mess with your head.  Did you complete the game three times on the same save file?

This review for Dead Space gets a lot right:

But I'd say that the pacing is RELENTLESS instead of lacking in silence.  And it's still fun to play.

After the huge ad campaign about chocolate milk being secretly good for you, schools ban chocolate milk as bad for you.  Net result, milk consumption drops 50%.  When they try to figure out why, they basically come down to white milk tastes yucky.

Not very good Dairy State attitude, is it?  ::)

It's the chocolate part, methinks..  And with whole milk being as obviously unhealthy as it is, chocolate milk is a nail in those poor children's early coffin.

Seriously though, today's society want to sterilize and isolate kids from any minor risk they may suffer from a number of things.  I blame the litigious nature our society trends towards.

I can understand trying to reduce things like injuries and accidents, but part of life is falling down and bruising our knees.  Part of life is getting hurt and knowing how to get past it.

And yet look at all the harmful things and ideas children have access to nowadays that weren't a problem a couple of decades ago, most of them mental and psychological.  Things children ought not to have to deal with, perhaps even some things forced upon them, despite parent's wishes against it.

I'm not looking forward to grade school years with my kids.

So, a couple days ago, I arrive at work and clock in. Almost immediately, one of my managers grabs me and tells me to follow a specific person to make sure that person doesn't just walk out the door and steal a cart of groceries.

So I follow. And I wait. And I watch. And said suspicious person walks out the door without paying, and it greeted by the security officer asking if she paid or not.

It's not the fact that it's the proverbial little old lady walking out of the front door with a cart of groceries that gets me. It's not the fact that she decided to go to a different door when she saw that a police officer was standing near the door she normally uses. It's not only the fact that she's done it (at least) three weeks in a row, minimum.

It's the fact that she asked me for help that gets me. She couldn't lift a 12 pack of pop because they'd been stocked sideways, so she asked me for help and walked out the door 5 minutes later.

I'm amazed at how brazen that little old lady was. And I'm going to check to see if she tries it again next week.

955 years?  Time to stop adding names to the list I think.  ::)

So Firefighters found an old bunker in the Okefenokee Swamp, my backyard, stock full of TNT. And for those of you wondering, no its not mine. Had I known about it...........he he he......... Sadly this makes us swamp folk look even more "Deliverance" grade than ever. :P

Oh, don't worry about being lumped in with the cliche banjo pluckers from Deliverance. We know you'd run them off with a shotgun if they showed up.

I'm glad they found the bunker of TNT before the fire did. That would have been an unwelcome surprise. Then again, I get the feeling that "backyard" for you is a lot more than it is for me.

I'm just sourly surprised it wasn't looted as soon as it was found.  :(

I could have had lots of fun with 339 stix for TNT........... at-least they could have invited me to the explosions. :P

So, the new Yahoo! mail had it's great unavoidable unveiling today.

It's old yahoo. Only shinier.

WTF Yahoo?! Give me something new or update something instead of just putting a shiny new skin and a few drop down menus that change nothing!

At least it's not any worse than it was. (It's mediocre, reliable and usable either way.)

EDIT: Also, the default setting is an ugly shade of green. Which is a bit petty of me to complain about, because it took me less than a minute to figure out how to change it.

My thoughts on the video are: How stupid can George Lucas be? And how greedy is that plaid wearing guy?

I haven't read the article, but that went up on all the SCA email lists I'm on and everybody is up in arms.  The guy hasn't been part of the Society for years but we're still getting fingered as the crazies who condoned it, so corporate - who has already had to start raising membership fees and implementing some truly stupid bureaucracy due to some law suits and nasty divorces in the last couple of years that have named us and forced expenditures on lawyers - is having to go into overdrive to kick some media people in the head for casually throwing our name into the pot without research.

Anyone violating this ban will be told the joke themselves, butthey will, at least, die laughing.

Oh boy. I got a letter in the mail today inviting me to the 2001 graduate class. There was a list of attending graduates and all that, the location and time of the meeting. How to dress and who you could bring.

Here's the kicker. I dropped outta high school and got my GED so I could go to work. On the letter, under the list of invited graduates, my name was the only one on it. I shit you not, if I had a scanner or a phone with a camera it'd be all over the web.

That? Disgusting tripe that should be burnt before being viewed. Or thrown to rifftrax for a much needed lambasting.

What kills me most is this is being adapted from a PUBLISHED NOVEL.  I'm almost ashamed to even be a writer if this is the kind of crap that's getting through.

I'm ashamed of romance novel standards if "My undead lover is a zombie!" is making its way past quality control.

I blame Anne Rice. She started the whole Vampire craze with Interview With A Vampire, and it's been going downhill ever since.

Oh, dear sweet gods, Shippou!  Don't remind me!  There's FAR too much MLP fanart out there, and of that 90% seems to be Rule 34, and gods, it's everywhere I browse and makes me shudder.  Not just at bad art but the total and complete RAPE of a franchise.  Never mind I don't at ALL like MLP, never mind how much I actually loathe it, but still, even I can feel hurt at seeing the horror that has been inflicted upon it (and upon my EYES, which BURN).

Rule 34: If it EXISTS, there is porn of it.

I've seen porn of the most unlikely sort, up to and including Cars porn.  Yes, Cars.  The film series by Pixar.  Just...  Just sooooo wrong.  That which has been seen, cannot be UN-seen.

The corollary?

Rule 35: If porn does not exist of something, then someone will draw porn of it.

It's not 100% consistent though. Although I have seen it in action at least twice. Unfortunately, I can't press the "unsee" button.
